Frequently asked questions
Short answers, grouped by topic, each pointing to the page that carries the full detail. Where something is still being confirmed, the answer says so rather than guessing.
Free registration
Do I need an account to use the website?
No. Every page is open. A free Rindo Portal account gives access to restricted vehicle information, such as full auction sheets and photographs, that is not shown publicly.
Register →Does registering cost anything or commit me to buying?
No. There is no charge and no deposit to register, and an account does not commit you to a purchase. You choose your import country when you register so the site shows the right destination stages.
Buying Process →Auction deposit and access
Why is a deposit needed for auctions?
Complete auction listings and bidding in Rindo Portal are opened by a deposit, which is set case by case. We tell you the amount and the exact terms before you pay anything.
Buying Process →Can I bid at the auction myself?
No. Japanese auction houses admit accredited members only. You authorise a maximum bid in writing and the bid is placed through Rindo on your instruction. It never exceeds your maximum.
Auctions →What do I pay if the car sells below my maximum?
The hammer price plus the auction house’s fees and the stated Rindo charges, not your maximum. The maximum is a ceiling, not the price.
How Japanese auctions work →The three buying routes
What are the three ways to buy?
Auctions, for the widest choice; Stock Cars, for cars available now at an agreed price; and Dedicated Car Sourcing, for a specific brief. Every route leads to the same checks, purchase handling and export.
Buying Process →Can you source a specific car I have seen online?
Yes. Send the listing link with a sourcing brief and we will check it and report back before anything is committed.
Dedicated Car Sourcing →Do I have to read all the guides before buying?
No. The guides exist so you understand what you are looking at, but help sits beside every decision. Ask us about any car at any stage.
Learn With Us →Rindo’s checks
What does Rindo check before I commit?
We assess the auction report and photographs, explain the grade and the markings, and pursue further checks or an inspection where one is available for that car. Our findings are explained to you before you set a maximum bid or approve a purchase.
Our Checks & Inspections →Is the auction sheet a guarantee of condition?
No. It is the auction house’s visual inspection on the day, and standards vary between houses. We read the comments and the diagram rather than relying on the grade alone.
Understanding Auction Sheets →Purchase approval
When is a car actually bought?
Only on your written instruction: a maximum bid for an auction lot, or an approval for a stock or sourced car. Nothing is committed on your behalf without it.
Buying Process →What happens after an auction win?
You hear the result the same day, won or not. If won, the purchase moves to payment, then export preparation and shipping.
Auctions →Costs and payment stages
What does the Rindo quotation include?
Vehicle price, Rindo’s charges, Japan inland transport, export preparation and shipping to your port. Destination costs are shown separately because they are paid in your country.
Understanding Costs →When do I pay?
In stages that follow the purchase: after a successful purchase for the vehicle and the stated Rindo charges, then a separate invoice for freight and loading, then local charges at the destination. Methods and currencies are confirmed before you commit.
Payment Methods →Shipping
Roll-on roll-off or container?
Roll-on roll-off is usually the simpler choice for one driveable car. A container suits several cars, a non-runner or parts travelling with the car. We recommend based on the car and the destination.
Shipping Methods →When will I know the sailing date?
Once the car is acquired and the shipment is booked, we confirm the method and the expected sailing. Sailing and arrival dates are estimates from the shipping line, not guarantees, and we update you if they change.
Shipping Methods →Which documents will I receive?
The documents relevant to a Japanese export: the export certificate with a translation, the bill of lading, the invoice and, where your country requires it, a pre-shipment inspection certificate.
Export Documents →Rindo-managed or customer-managed import
Will you handle clearance and registration in my country?
Rindo can handle the import and the arrangements that follow, or you can manage them yourself. The scope and cost of the chosen service are set out before you buy. Your country guide explains the stages either way.
Country Import Guide →Which countries do you ship to?
Launch countries are being finalised. Choose your country in the header to see the guidance currently available, or ask us about a destination that is not listed yet.
Contact us →Dealer enquiries
Do you work with dealers?
Yes. Dealers use the same stock, auctions, sourcing and portal as individual buyers, with coordination around a standing brief, grouped bidding and consolidated shipping. Dealer terms are being confirmed and are not yet live.
For Dealers →Still have a question?
Ask us directly and we will answer by email. Nobody has to finish the guides before buying.
